Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 5, 2026

PLAYCODE3 LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates Screenplay Assistant™ and the website at playcode3.ai. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our services. It covers BOTH the Screenplay Assistant application AND the playcode3.ai website, as well as any other PLAYCODE3 services we offer.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you sign in, we receive your email address from your sign-in provider, and (where the provider offers it) your name and profile photo. This information is used solely for authentication and to identify your account within the application.

Content You Create

Your screenplays, scenes, characters, and other creative content are stored securely in our cloud database (Google Firebase/Firestore). Your private projects are associated with your account and are accessible only to you through your authenticated session. Content you choose to post in community features such as The Café is public to other participants — see "Community Features (The Café)" below.

AI Processing

When you use our AI-powered features, content you submit may be sent to third-party AI services for processing. We currently use OpenAI (for screenplay formatting, story parsing, character inference, image generation including portraits, storyboard panels, and Café avatars, and automated content-safety moderation of text and images posted in The Café) and Anthropic (for the Atticus in-app screenwriting companion and the storyboard planner). We also use a third-party video provider (via Fal.ai) to render AI video clips, and a third-party voice provider for Table Read audio, when you use those features. Processing happens in real time to deliver the requested feature. According to OpenAI's and Anthropic's API data usage policies, content submitted through their APIs is not used to train their models.

Voice Dictation

The Write page offers an optional microphone button so you can speak your scene instead of typing it. This uses your web browser's built-in speech recognition (the Web Speech API). When you turn it on, your browser captures audio from your microphone and converts it to text; depending on your browser, that audio may be sent to your browser or operating-system provider (for example, Google in Chrome or Apple in Safari) for transcription, under that provider's own privacy policy. We do not record, store, or transmit your microphone audio ourselves — only the resulting text is placed into your scene, exactly as your typed text would be. Dictation is entirely optional and off until you tap the microphone, and you can stop it at any time.

Community Features (The Café)

Screenplay Assistant™ includes an optional public community chatroom ("The Café"). If you choose to take part, the information you submit there — the display name, avatar, and status line you select, your chat messages, any images or GIFs you post, AI-generated avatars you create, and any poll responses — is PUBLIC and visible to all other participants, including unregistered guests. Please do not post anything in The Café that you would not want others to see. We also process presence information (that you are currently in the room and whether you are typing) and moderation records (such as reports and bans) to keep the community safe. Café content is subject to automated and human moderation, and images you upload or generate are sent to OpenAI for content-safety screening before they appear. We may remove content and suspend or ban participants who violate our Terms of Service.

Guest (Unregistered) Access

The Café may be opened to logged-out visitors through an anonymous sign-in (Firebase Anonymous Authentication). When you take part as a guest, we do not collect an email address or create a standard account; we process the display name and avatar you choose, the messages and images you post, a temporary anonymous identifier, and abuse-prevention signals (including your IP address and a CAPTCHA check). Guest sessions are temporary. Because guests have no account to sign back into, requests to remove guest content should be sent to the contact address below with enough detail to identify the content.

Referral and Attribution Information

If you arrive through a referral or invite link, we record the referral code and the referring user so we can credit eligible referrals, and we record basic first-touch attribution (such as the referring web address, any campaign parameters contained in the link, and the page on which you landed). We use this information to operate the referral program and to understand where new writers come from.

Technical and Location Information

We process limited technical information to operate and secure the service, including your IP address (used for abuse prevention, rate-limiting, and CAPTCHA verification through Cloudflare Turnstile) and approximate location (such as country and city, derived from your IP address through Google Analytics). An approximate location and the source of your visit may be stored on your account. IP addresses and approximate location can be personal data under some laws; we process them on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and functioning.

Contact Information You Send Us

If you email us at contact@playcode3.ai, apps@playcode3.ai, or support@playcode3.ai, we receive your email address and the contents of your message. We use that information solely to respond to you.

If you submit a form on playcode3.ai (such as a project brief), we receive the information you enter — your name, email address, company, and message — together with your IP address and browser user agent, which we use for abuse prevention and rate-limiting. Form submissions are stored with our hosting provider (Netlify) and emailed to us; we use them solely to respond to you and retain them only as long as needed to handle your inquiry and for reasonable record-keeping.

Advertising and Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and Google Ads conversion tracking to understand how visitors use the site and to measure the effectiveness of any paid advertising we run. These services may set cookies and record events such as pageviews, sessions, button clicks, and milestones you reach inside the app (such as signing up, creating your first project, or completing a registration step). The data sent to Google is primarily event-based and contains no screenplay content, no character text, no email address tied to a name, and no payment information; however, Google may receive your IP address and derive an approximate location, as described under "Technical and Location Information" above. Your Firebase user ID may be sent as an opaque identifier so events from a signed-in user can be stitched across devices, but it is not associated with personally identifying information on Google's side. You can opt out of Google ad personalization at https://adssettings.google.com and you can install a browser-level analytics opt-out (such as the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout) if you prefer.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and maintain your account
  • Store and sync your creative work across sessions
  • Process your text through AI services for screenplay formatting
  • Operate community features such as The Café, including moderation and abuse prevention
  • Operate the referral program and understand where new writers come from
  • Respond to inquiries you send us by email
  • Improve the application's functionality

3. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure: Firebase Firestore for project and community data, and Firebase Storage for files you generate or upload (character portraits, storyboard panels, original imports such as the source file you uploaded, and images or avatars you upload or generate in The Café). Both provide encryption at rest and in transit. Our application is served over HTTPS to protect data during transmission. Access to your private stored content is restricted to your authenticated account; files and messages you post in The Café are shared publicly within the chatroom, as described above.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We share your content with service providers only as needed to operate the features you use, including: OpenAI and Anthropic (AI processing and content moderation); Fal.ai (AI video and image generation); our voice provider (Table Read audio); Giphy (which receives the text of GIF searches you run in The Café); Cloudflare Turnstile (which receives a verification token and your IP address for guest abuse-prevention); Stripe (payment processing — see Section 8); and Google Firebase / Google Cloud and Netlify (hosting, database, file storage, and serverless functions). These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms. We do not otherwise sell or share your content with third parties.

5. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct or update inaccurate personal data
  • Delete your projects and creative content at any time through the application
  • Request deletion of your account and all associated data
  • Request removal of your Café messages, profile, or uploaded content
  • Object to or restrict certain processing, and request a portable copy of your data where applicable
  • Export your work as TXT, PDF, Word (.docx), FDX (Final Draft), or signed JSON backup

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have rights under the GDPR / UK GDPR, including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and data portability, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. PLAYCODE3 LLC is the data controller for personal data processed through the application.

To request account deletion or a copy of your data, contact us at contact@playcode3.ai.

6. Backups and Data Retention

We maintain automated backups of our database to protect against accidental data loss:

  • Point-in-time recovery covering the last 7 days
  • Daily backup snapshots retained for 7 days
  • Weekly backup snapshots retained for 98 days

When you delete a project, it moves to your Trash for 30 days before permanent removal — you can restore it anytime during that window. When you request account deletion, we remove your active data within 30 days; residual copies in our backup snapshots fall off naturally within 98 days as the snapshots expire.

Café chat messages are retained while the community feature is active and may be removed by you or by a moderator at any time. You may delete or change your Café profile at any time, and requests to remove guest content can be sent to the contact address above.

For the marketing website, Google Analytics retains visit data for up to 14 months by default. Email correspondence is retained for as long as needed to respond to your inquiry and for reasonable record-keeping.

7. Sign-Up and Guest Access

Screenplay Assistant™ accounts are open to anyone who signs in with a supported method (Google, Apple, Microsoft, or a one-time email link or code). When you create an account we collect your email address, and (where the provider offers it) your display name and profile photo. We use that information to recognize you, to associate your screenplays with your account, and to contact you about your account. The Café may additionally be used without an account through temporary anonymous guest access, as described under "Guest (Unregistered) Access" above. The marketing website at playcode3.ai does not require an account or sign-in to browse.

8. Payments

The Spark plan is free forever and requires no payment information. Paid plans (Writer, Storyteller, Studio) are processed by Stripe, Inc. — a PCI-compliant payment processor — on our behalf. When you upgrade, Stripe collects and stores your payment card details directly on their servers; we never see or store your full card number, CVV, or expiration date. From Stripe we receive only the information needed to associate your subscription with your account: a Stripe customer ID, the last four digits of your card, the card brand and country, your billing email address, billing address (where required for tax), and the subscription state (active, past due, canceled, trial). We use this to grant and renew access to your plan, send receipts, handle refunds, and answer billing questions. Stripe processes payments under its own privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy. We do not share your payment information with any other third party. We also sell one-time credit packs (for AI video clips and Table Read voice generations) through Stripe; the same payment-data handling described here applies, and credit packs are charged once and do not renew. You can cancel any subscription at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period and you will not be charged again. We do not collect payment information through the marketing website.

9. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of your data, and opt out of the sale of your personal information. We do not sell personal information.

10. Cookies and Local Storage

We use browser local storage, session storage, and IndexedDB to keep you signed in, remember your last view and project, cache generated storyboards for performance, and store user preferences such as the export footer toggle. The Google Analytics and Google Ads services described above may also set cookies for analytics and conversion measurement. We do not use third-party advertising cookies to build profiles for sale. On the marketing website, the only cookies set are the analytics cookies described above; you can block cookies through your browser settings and the website will continue to work normally without them.

11. Children's Privacy

Screenplay Assistant™ is not directed to children. You must be at least 13 years old to use the application (or older where your local law requires — for example, 16 in parts of the European Economic Area). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the application or website after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
